Bangkok Got a Big Old Buddha

Beijing is getting colder everywhere except my desk - for some reason it has been unbearably hot the last couple days. Things are copasetic here. Busy at work but and looking forward to the weekend. Trying to figure out my Halloween costume. There was some talk of being a Chinese pop star but I am not sure if I am willing to commit to the haircut/facial hair required for such an endeavor.
Here are some photos from Bangkok. I have mixed feelings about Bangkok. In some ways it was fantastic - good food, great sites, locals were nice - but in other ways it was obnoxious - foreign tourists.

This was a statue at the Grand Palace - note the guy's leg on the left for scale.

I love goooold!

You can kind of see the top of somebody's head on the bottom left. The Buddha was huge, scary huge. The feet were amazing - inlaid with mother of pearl.
Looking forward to hearing what people are doing for Halloween,
Matthew

Foreign tourists (like yourself?) made the Bangkok experience obnoxious? I am confused. One of the most obnoxious things about our China trip was the fact that I couldn't speak Chinese. Which made me feel bad because Liz had to do all the work, and I was just a gawper. Oh well. There was a lot to gawp at. In thinking it all through long after the fact, I guess I am not the best traveler. Probably I am a better stayer-at-home.

Yes, like myself, only behaving as if they were on Spring break in Bangkok. Nothing says obnoxious tourist like fake dreadlocks and a favorable exchange rate....

I must admit that I didn't see many tourists with fake dreadlocks, though the exchange rate was favorable to me. I did see some Tibetan people with extraordinarily long hair wound up around their heads. And I've always been too much a fuddy duddy for the kind of Spring Break memories that you imply. I think you probably hang around a different crowd than I do.
